The Old Man and the Sea (Ernest Hemmingway)
Ernest Hemingway is popular for his clear, straightforward writing pattern and short sentence formation, which is good for English language learners and several people have read it in school. It’s about the courageous tale of a Cuban fisherman and his tussle to land a giant marlin and it is an apt introduction to Hemingway as an author.
Lord of the Flies (William Golding)
This book is one modern classic and a popular study text for schools all across the world. When a group of boys is isolated on a desert island, the society they form descends into ruthless behavior. Golding uses dramatic and descriptive language, almost in the form of poetry, that makes you feel as though you are in the scenes yourself.
The Giver (Lois Lowry)
Lowry takes the help of short sentences and simple grammar to form a story that is attention-grabbing straight away from the start. It is about a boy named Jonas and the community he belongs to – where freedom, individuality, and choice do not exist.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (Mark Haddon)
This is the story related to the adventures of a young boy having autism, Christopher. When he gets to know about the murder of his neighbor’s dog, he decides to investigate it. As it is told from Christopher’s point of view, his matter-of-fact explanations pertaining to everything he sees are clear and simple to understand and take you on an intriguing journey.
Tuesdays with Morrie (Mitch Albom)
The time when Mitch Albom reconnects with Morrie Schwartz, his ex-college professor, he learns valuable life lessons and shares with readers all the funny, insightful wisdom that Morrie reveals in the last months of his life.
