Accept that English is a Peculiar Language

At times you can see patterns in English grammar and sometimes English does not make any sense at all. For instance, why “read” (reed) and “read” (red) are the same words, but pronounced separately, depending on whether you are speaking in the past or present tense? Or why “mice” is the plural of “mouse,” but “houses” is the plural of “house”?

Sadly, there are simply as many exceptions as there are rules in English. You will simply get stuck on learning how to speak English correctly if you try to search for a reason for everything.  Sometimes English is peculiar and inexplicable, so the best thing to do is simply memorize the strange exceptions and go on.

Stop Being a Student

The correct attitude can make the difference between success and failure. Stop thinking of you as someone who is learning English and begin thinking of you as someone who speaks English. It’s a minor change but it will make you feel a lot confident and assist you to use the English you already know more impactfully.

This also means you need to begin thinking in English. If you wish to say the word “apple” in English, for instance, right now you perhaps think of the word in your native language first and then attempt to think of the correct word in English. Rather, try imagining a picture of a banana, and then just think the English word “banana.” Actual fluency happens when you stop mentally translating conversations.

Dive Deeply

Studying English for an hour or two once a week isn’t enough to make any good progress. The best manner to rapidly improve your English is to spend at least some minutes practising every day. Immerse yourself as deeply as possible every time you study and challenge yourself to listen, read, and even say things in English that you think could be too difficult for you. If you wish to speak English fluently, you have to make it an essential component of your everyday life.

Keep in Mind the Answer Is in the Question

Listen attentively when someone asks you a question in English and you’ll answer correctly every time. English questions are like mirrors:

Does she…..?                       Yes, she does.

Can he….?                        Yes, he can.

Is it….?                                Yes, it is.

If somebody asks you a question and you are unsure how to answer, begin by thinking about the words used in the question. The individual has already said most of the words you require to make your answer. Rather than just memorizing English grammar, begin to look for patterns such as this one. There are plenty of simple ways to “cheat” and make it simple to remember the correct words.

Use It or Lose It

There is a saying in English: “Use it or lose it,” which actually means if you don’t practice an ability, you may forget it. This idea can be utilized to help you remember new English vocabulary. The best manner to remember a new word is to use it straight away so it will remain in your memory. When you learn a new word, try to say it in sentences for some time over the next week and you will never forget it.

Never Afraid to Make Mistakes

Sometimes it can be hard to put entire rules and words together into a simple sentence. Never let the fear of saying something incorrect stop you from speaking at all. Even if you think you are making an error, keep speaking anyway. Most of the time, people will understand what you are attempting to say, even if you make a mistake. Also, the more you speak, the better it gets, and the faster the correct words will come to your mind.

Improve Your English Pronunciation

There is no particular “correct” English.  If people have a problem understanding you, it will be difficult for you to speak confidently.

There is no magic or shortcut to improve pronunciation – you simply need to learn the mechanics, and then practice.

Happy Learning !!
